Caps vs Price Controls

Vice President Cheney and other members of the administration have used the term "Caps" when referring to putting a lid on energy prices, when they really mean price controls. Granted they oppose the "caps," but they should not use the liberals' own terminology.

Conservatives fall into the elitists' trap when they use the liberals' own term of "caps" on energy prices. Caps sound so innocuous and so temporary. Call the socialists' goal what it really is: price controls. — fully intended to be permanent — so that they may duck the rightful blame for their mendacity.

Think what permanent price controls would mean to the Liberal Elitists' dream — control over our lives. With price controls on energy it is but a short step to "conservation measures" to help make our "dwindling" energy supply last. When, inevitably, price controls do nothing to ease the pain, there will always be the energy producers to blame. Politicians — the unscrupulous ones — love scapegoats.

For those of us with short memories or who are too young to remember, we had a government-contrived energy shortage in the 1970s, culminating in Jimmy Carter's "conservation" measures, which were his answer to the shortages created by price controls. Carter's conservation worked no better than did the price controls themselves.

Conservatives should stay with the correct term: price controls.
