Here is an example; Please note the spelling of Senator Matlack.
Dear Senator Baldacci, Senator Matlack, and distinguished committee members,
My name is ______________ and I live in ______________, Maine. I am asking you to please support HP438 to allow the state legislatures to propose a Term Limits Amendment for Congress. This is a reform that we need and Congress refuses to propose it even though over 80% of the American people want it. Members of Congress no longer listen to the American people, only their funders, lobbyists, and special interest groups.
Overwhelming support for term limits for Congress crosses all party lines. This is a non-partisan, single amendment that all sides of the political spectrum agree on and is long overdue. We all know that Congress will never propose term limits on themselves and that is why we need this committee to pass HP438 to allow the state legislatures to apply for an Article V convention so they can propose it.
We have term limits on the President, our Governor, our state legislature, it only makes sense to have them on the members of the U.S. House and Senate. I am asking you today to vote “Ought to Pass” on HP438 to provide Fair and Competitive Elections for the American people so that we have more options at the ballot box and have the opportunity to send new people with fresh ideas to represent us in Congress.
Thank you for your time, and I respectfully ask that you vote “Ought to Pass” on HP438.
Sincerely,
Your name
