Can You Read 1,000 Pages in Under an Hour?

Shouldn’t members of Congress actually read every bill before they vote on it? That’s just common sense — meaning career politicians in Washington would never go for it.

In a video posted to his Facebook page, Utah Senator Mike Lee showed that a 1,000-page highway transportation bill arrived in his office only 54 minutes before the Senate was scheduled to vote on it. After seeing schemes like this, it’s no wonder Lee is a sponsor of the U.S. Term Limits Amendment.

Over the years, some members of Congress have tried to reform the zany practice of voting on a bill before knowing what is in it, but these efforts have gone nowhere. Perhaps our esteemed representatives will start reading bills once we start reading them their termination letters.
