Louisiana house introduces resolution to term limit Congress
Baton Rouge, Louisiana — U.S. Term Limits applauds Representative Mark Wright (District 77) for introducing HCR51 to term limit Congress.
Under Article V of the Constitution of the United States, state legislatures may team up at a national convention to propose a congressional term limits amendment to the Constitution. The effort is supported by the nonpartisan, grassroots nonprofit, U.S. Term Limits.
According to a recent poll by McLaughlin & Associates, 85% of likely voters in Louisiana support term limits on Congress, including strong support across partly lines. 94% of Republicans, 80% of Democrats, and 83% of independents of those surveyed support the reform.
U.S. Term Limits’ President Philip Blumel commended Rep. Wright for putting forth the legislation. Blumel said, “The people of Louisiana are lucky to have a public servants who see what is going on in D.C. and is willing to take action to fix it. They knows that Congress won’t set term limits on itself. Therefore, it is the obligation of the states to do so.”
Wright added, “I believe that our institutions perform better when there is a regular mixture of new blood coming in.”
If passed in the state house and senate, Louisiana will join other states at a national convention to propose a term limits on Congress amendment. 34 state legislatures are required to call the convention. The amendment must then be ratified by 38 states to become part of the U.S. Constitution.
