US Term Limits To Hold 2021 North Carolina Capitol Day With Term Limits Activist Tim “Izzy” Israel
Raleigh, NC — Citizens from across the state will meet with state legislators to discuss HJR 172 (sponsored by Rep. Clampitt) at the State Capitol on Wednesday, June 9th. Members who have shown a willingness to support term limits will be presented plaques thanking them for their support.
Tim “Izzy” Israel will also be in attendance meeting with members to urge a vote on the resolution before he continues his walk to raise awareness for congressional term limits. Izzy is hoping to increase awareness for an issue that 82% of American voters support: placing term limits on Congress. Izzy has previously met and thanked Speaker Moore for his efforts to pass HJR 172 in the house.
Speaker Moore had this to say about term limits and Izzy’s efforts, “I’m thankful for Americans like Izzy, whose walk across the country is bringing more awareness to an issue I care deeply about– Congressional term limits. I was honored to share a meal with him during his stop in Shelby and I hope more Americans will be inspired by his journey and his message. In the NC House of Representatives, House Joint Resolution 172 (urging Congress to impose term limits on members of the U.S. House of Representatives) passed with bipartisan support. The message from North Carolina is clear—the time has come for a convention of the states that would put term limits in place for the U.S. House of Representatives.”
With all eyes turned to the senate as the end of the legislative session quickly approaches, Izzy stated now is the time voters need to express their strong support for HJR 172 to their state senator.
“It’s becoming clear who supports term limits in the North Carolina legislature and who doesn’t. When a piece of legislation with this much support from voters on both sides of the aisle gets this close to the finish line and isn’t made a priority, it’s because of some sort of political gamesmanship or business as usual. I won’t be surprised by it if it happens, but it’s frustrating when politicians don’t listen to their constituents. We need to prioritize this issue and stop the people playing political games before they run out the clock. Please call your state senator and ask them to vote on HJR 172. The voters can win this one,” said Izzy.
Izzy continued, “there’s more of us than there are of them and I’m going to walk to Fayetteville continuing to raise awareness. We’re on the right side of history on this one and I’m looking forward to visiting the place where the North Carolina assembly met to become the 12th state of this great nation.”
The next stage of Izzy’s walk will begin immediately following Capitol Hill Day and he will travel to Fayetteville where he will stop at the Market House which was built on the old state house site (the original state house burned down in 1831).
