Charleston, WV – U.S. Term Limits, the nation’s largest pro-term limits group, presented 73 plaques to state delegates and state senators honoring their commitment to term limits on Congress. Les and Shanna Chamblee spent a week in the mountain state visiting their offices and making the presentations. The award recognizes a steadfast commitment to restore citizen government through term limits and is presented only to lawmakers who have taken a strong stand on the issue.
West Virginia is the fourth state in the nation to call for a convention for the exclusive purpose of proposing term limits on Congress. The most recent poll from McLaughlin & Associates shows that 83 percent of West Virginians approve term limits on Congress. 89% Republicans, 77% Democrats and 88% Independents.
All the honorees, 58 state delegates and 15 state senators have signed pledges vowing “I pledge that, as a member of the state legislature, I will cosponsor, vote for, and defend the resolution applying for an Article V convention for the limited purpose of enacting term limits on Congress.”
USTL Executive Director, Nick Tomboulides hailed the bipartisan group for supporting term limits. “It takes guts to stand up to the special interests that prefer West Virginia had no term limits. We applaud these members for listening to the people,” he said.
