Golden Continues to Champion Term Limits by Signing Pledge
Maine — U.S. Term Limits is proud to announce that Maine 2nd district U.S. Rep. Jared Golden has signed the U.S. Term Limits Pledge, further building on his proven track record of term limits advocacy. By signing, Golden has formally committed to cosponsor and vote for a constitutional amendment limiting House members to three terms and senators to two. Before signing the pledge, Golden had already been co-sponsoring this same proposal as House Joint Resolution 12.
“We applaud Congressman Golden for making this commitment,” said U.S. Term Limits Executive Director Nick Tomboulides. “Rep. Golden has proved time and time again that he is serious about fixing the broken system in Washington and getting term limits done.”
According to a recent national survey conducted by RMG Research, congressional term limits is the most popular and bipartisan issue in America with 82% public support. That includes backing from 87% of Republicans, 83% of Democrats and 75% of independent voters.
In 1993, a supermajority of Maine voters passed term limits for state lawmakers. One year later, in 1994, they voted “yes” on a similar ballot measure to term limit Maine’s congressional delegation. While this latter measure was ruled unconstitutional, it did leave open the door for a national constitutional amendment to term limit Congress.
