The Johnson County GOP Calls on Legislature to Pass Term Limits Resolution
Mountain City, TN – Today, April 4th, 2022, the Johnson County Republican Party officially called on Tennessee’s legislature to pass an Article V application to propose a Term Limits Amendment for members of the U.S. House and Senate. Last November, the Johnson County Commission Board had passed a similar resolution.
In Tennessee, the state resolution is filed as House Joint Resolution 8. It is scheduled for a vote this Wednesday, April 6th, 2022 in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The effort is being spearheaded by the nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, U.S. Term Limits.
Article V of the Constitution of the United States specifies how amendments may be proposed; either two-thirds of both Houses of Congress or on the application of two-thirds of the state legislatures to force Congress to call a convention for proposing an amendment.
According to recent national polling, “82% of voters of all parties continue to support term limits, including 87% of Republicans, 83% of Democrats, and 78% of Independents.”
