U.S. Term Limits Praises Jodi Decker for Signing Pledge
Detroit, MI – U.S. Term Limits (USTL), the leader in the national, non-partisan movement to limit terms for elected officials, is gathering support from lawmakers and candidates across Michigan. Its mission is to advocate for term limits on all elected officials. State house candidate, Jodi Decker of district 107, has committed to defend term limits in Michigan by signing the term limits pledge. The primary election is scheduled for August 2, 2022.
USTL President, Philip Blumel, commented on Decker’s pledge saying, “Jodi’s support of term limits shows that there are individuals who are willing to listen to the majority of voters who want term limits. The people are best served by citizen legislators, not career politicians.”
The pledge is provided to candidates and elected officials statewide. It reads, “I pledge to take no action that would aid or abet the abolition or lengthening of term limits to which elected officials in my state are subject.”
According to the latest polling on term limits for Michigan State lawmakers conducted by Pulse Research in 2019, term limits enjoys wide bipartisan support. Pulse’s analysis states, “Michigan voters overwhelmingly support the state’s current 6 and 8-year term limits law, while rejecting a possible change which would allow legislators to stay in office longer. Support for current term limits is broad across all political and demographic groups. By a decisive margin of 69% to 21%, Michigan voters oppose changing term limits. Large majorities also say politicians are changing term limits to benefit themselves personally rather than benefit the people of Michigan. Furthermore, attacking term limits is a political liability in Michigan.”
