New Hampshire Rep. Scott Wallace files resolution to term limit Congress
Concord, NH – State representative Scott Wallace (Rockingham County No. 8) has filed House Concurrent Resolution 4 (HCR4) for New Hampshire to join the states calling for a convention to propose a Congressional Term Limits Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The effort is being spearheaded by the nonpartisan, nonprofit, U.S. Term Limits (USTL).
According to the latest McLaughlin & Associates poll, 76% of likely voters in New Hampshire support term limits on Congress, including strong support among Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike.
The President of U.S. Term Limits, Philip Blumel commended Wallace for working on such an important electoral reform. Blumel said, “The people of New Hampshire are lucky to have public servants who see what is going on in D.C. and are willing to take action to fix it. By using Article V to term limit Congress, the states can restore citizen representation on Capitol Hill.”
Fifty-four representatives have pledged to cosponsor and support the term limits resolution.
If passed, New Hampshire will join other states in the call for an Article V convention for the exclusive purpose of proposing a Congressional Term Limits Amendment. Once thirty-four state legislatures pass similar resolutions Congress must call the convention for the States to propose the amendment, which will then require ratification by three-fourths (38) of the states to become part of the U.S. Constitution.
