Washington D.C. — Congressional legislators Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) and co-chairs of the House Caucus Representatives Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) and Rod Blum (R-IO) will be featured in a panel discussion along with former Virginia Attorney General, Ken Cuccinelli. The event, entitled “Term Limits: Beyond Party Lines,” is sponsored by U.S. Term Limits in collaboration with the Congressional Term Limits Caucus. The program format starts with panelist introductions, a panel discussion, and will be followed by a question and answer session.
The bi-partisan Term Limit Caucus marshals pro-term limits members together to pursue common ground. One of its most important duties is consensus building around the U.S. Term Limits Amendment of three House terms and two Senate terms, to which both Blum and O’Rourke have pledged their exclusive support.
Executive Director, Nick Tomboulides states, “Supermajorities of Americans, regardless of party, are united in support of a constitutional amendment for term limits on Congress. But, unfortunately, Congress refuses to listen and won’t propose a term limits amendment. That’s why U.S. Term Limits applauds the House Term Limits Caucus for working to achieve this goal.”
U.S. Term Limits provides an Amendment Pledge to every announced candidate for federal office. It reads, “I pledge that as a member of Congress I will cosponsor and vote for the U.S. Term Limits amendment of three (3) House terms and two (2) Senate terms and no longer limit.” The U.S. Term Limits Constitutional Amendment has been introduced in both the U.S. Senate, Joint Resolution 2, by Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and the House of Representatives, Joint Resolution 6, by Representative Ron DeSantis (R-FL).
Senator Paul, an avid supporter of term limits stated, “We have all seen the consequence of long-term incumbencies. Career politicians seem to care more about their career than what is best for their country. We have seen politicians grow more and more out-of-touch with each successive term.”
This particular event will emphasize that term limits is truly a non-partisan issue. More than 74% of the population supports term limits and the numbers are pretty evenly spread among Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. Congressional dysfunction affects everyone, regardless of party affiliation.
Scheduled from noon-1pm on December 6, 2017 in the Russell Senate Office Building, Room 385 (2 Constitution Ave NE,Washington, DC), the discussion will be moderated by Tomboulides. While open to the public, R.S.V.P.s are required as seating is limited. Lunch will be provided.
