Bridgton, Maine — U.S. Term Limits, the nation’s largest and oldest grassroots term limits advocacy organization, is pleased to announce that Dr. Jay Allen is set to sign the pledge to support term limits on Congress. Allen declared his candidacy to challenge Rep. Chellie Pingree in Maine’s First Congressional District.
“Our elected officials need to work for the people of Maine. The term limit pledge is one way people have of holding their elected representatives accountable,” states Allen.
Ken Quinn, North Region Director for U.S. Term Limits applauds Allen’s decision. “More than 80% of voters support term limits on Congress. By signing the U.S. Term Limits pledge, Dr. Allen is demonstrating that he is committed to representing the people.”
The U.S. Term Limits amendment pledge is provided to every announced candidate for federal office. It reads, “I pledge that as a member of Congress, I will cosponsor and vote for the U.S. Term Limits amendment of three (3) House terms and two (2) Senate terms and no longer limit.” The U.S. Term Limits constitutional amendment has been introduced in both the U.S. Senate by Senator Ted Cruz (SJR1) and the U.S. House by Representative Francis Rooney (HJR20).
Jay Allen concluded his statement, “We continue to elect career politicians to represent us but the longer they stay in Washington, the more disconnected they become from the people of Maine who they are supposed to represent. Term limits will change that, which is why I wholeheartedly support term limits and gladly sign this pledge.”
U.S. Term Limits has the support of nearly 70 pledge signers currently holding office in Congress and hundreds of candidates running for office in 2020.
