Right now, term limits are on the ballot in Brownsville, Texas and the City of Aventura, Florida. It is important that we implement and maintain or make better existing term limits at all levels of government including municipal, state, and federal offices. This week, early voting started and term limits supporters in Brownsville and Aventura should get out the vote. Please take note of our ballot recommendations below.
City of Aventura, Florida
Aventura’s ballot question is looking to increase the term limits for council members who also serve as mayor to 16 consecutive years. That is way too long. Please vote NO on referendum 1 to stop the mayor from serving 16 years on the city commission. UPDATE 4/30: The voters of Aventura overwhelmingly rejected allowing the mayor to serve 16 years on the city commission 70-30%!
Brownsville, Texas
Brownsville, Texas has two term limits propositions on the ballot. Proposition 1 implements term limits on the Mayor and Proposition 2 places term limits on the City Commissioners. Voting “FOR” both propositions 1 & 2 will help the city by increasing transparency, getting more citizens involved in the processes of government, and help bring diverse perspectives to the city commission.
Early voting has started on both of these initiatives so please get out to vote.
