New Hampshire House Committee Passes Resolution to Term Limit Congress

Concord, NH – The New Hampshire House State Federal Relations & Veterans Affairs Committee passed House Concurrent Resolution 13 (HCR13), which proposes a congressional term limits amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The effort is led by Representative Joe Alexander and spearheaded by the nonpartisan nonprofit U.S. Term Limits and passed with bipartisan support with 12 ought to pass to 5 ought not pass.

As U.S. Term Limits’ President Philip Blumel put it, “Washington won’t fix itself, but New Hampshire can. We need leaders who see the problem and have the courage to act. Since Congress refuses to enact term limits, the states must take the lead and get the job done.”

It is clear that the people of New Hampshire agree. According to the latest New Hampshire poll by RMG Research, 84% of likely voters in New Hampshire support term limits on Congress, including strong support among Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike.

HCR13 has the bipartisan support of more than 150 legislators who have signed the term limits pledge, promising to support the congressional term limits effort. Once the measure passes both chambers, New Hampshire will be in the forefront of the states in the nation to file an application for a convention with the exclusive purpose of proposing term limits on the U.S. Congress.

After 34 state legislatures pass similar resolutions on the topic, and the term limits amendment is approved, it must be ratified by 38 states to become part of the U.S. Constitution. We’re one step closer to bringing back citizen legislators to Congress and restoring trust in the democratic process.
