U.S. Term Limits Praises Paul Taros for Signing Pledge
Bloomfield Hills, Michigan – U.S. Term Limits (USTL), the leader in the national, non-partisan movement to limit terms for elected officials, is gathering support from elected officials across Michigan. Its mission is to advocate for term limits on all elected officials. State house candidate Paul Taros, of district 40, has committed to defend term limits in Michigan by signing the Term Limits pledge.
USTL President, Philip Blumel, commented on Taros’s pledge saying, “Paul’s support of term limits shows that there are individuals who are willing to listen to the majority of voters who want term limits. The people are best served by citizen legislators, not career politicians.”
The U.S. Term Limits Pledge is provided to candidates and elected officials statewide. It reads, “I pledge to take no action that would aid or abet the abolition or lengthening of term limits to which elected officials in Michigan are subject.”
Thanks to term limits, Michigan also sees remarkably high rates of open seat races and incumbents who face primary challengers.
According to Scott Tillman, Michigan resident and USTL’s National Field Director, “We find that voters overwhelmingly support term limits but many politicians, once elected, do not.” He continues, “It takes a lot of effort and money for citizens to initiate term limits. Unfortunately, we find that the first order of business for some politicians is to gut term limits either by lengthening them or eliminating them altogether. That is why this pledge from statewide officials is so important. Taros knows this and is willing to assure term limits stay put in Michigan.”
According to the last nationwide poll on term limits conducted by McLaughlin & Associates, conducted in January 2018, term limits enjoys wide bipartisan support. McLaughlin’s analysis states, “Support for term limits is broad and strong across all political, geographic and demographic groups. An overwhelming 82% of voters approve of term limits.”
Tillman concludes, “It all boils down to one line of the Michigan state Constitution that reads ‘all political power is inherent in the people.’ We believe term limits helps do just that.”
