Arizona State House Files Bipartisan Resolution to Term Limit Congress
Phoenix, AZ – Five Arizona State Representatives, three Republicans and two Democrats, filed House Concurrent Resolution 2016 (HCR2016) for term limits on Congress. The effort is being spearheaded by the nonpartisan, nonprofit, U.S. Term Limits (USTL). Rep. David Cook is listed as primary sponsor with Reps. Neal Carter, Alma Hernandez, Keith Seaman and Austin Smith as cosponsors.
According to the latest RMG Research poll, 75% of likely voters in Arizona support term limits on Congress, including strong support among Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike.
The President of U.S. Term Limits, Philip Blumel commended the cosponsors for working across party lines on such an important electoral reform. Blumel said, “The people of Arizona are lucky to have public servants who see what is going on in D.C. and are willing to take action to fix it. By using Article V to term limit Congress, the states can restore citizen representation on Capitol Hill.”
Thirty-eight representatives in Arizona have signed the pledge to cosponsor and support the term limits resolution.
If passed, Arizona will join other states in the call for an Article V convention for the exclusive purpose of proposing a Congressional Term Limits Amendment. Once thirty-four state legislatures pass similar resolutions Congress must call the convention for the States to propose the amendment, which will then require ratification by three-fourths (38) of the states to become part of the U.S. Constitution.
