Rep. Richard Pickett Receives Plaque for Signing U.S. Term Limits Pledge
Augusta, ME — Maine State House Rep. Richard Pickett (district 116) was honored recently for his commitment to supporting a Term Limits Amendment for Congress by signing the U.S. Term Limits Pledge which reads: “I, Richard Pickett, pledge that as a member of the state legislature I will cosponsor, vote for, and defend the resolution applying for an Article V convention for the sole purpose of enacting term limits on Congress.”
U.S. Term Limits Northern Regional Director, Kenn Quinn, presented him with a plaque at the Maine State House in Augusta. “Rep. Pickett is a real believer in this reform to have the state legislatures use their authority under Article V of the U.S.Constitution to propose a Congressional Term Limits Amendment.”
Pickett is in good company in his commitment. 40 Maine legislators have pledged support with many more indicating they will vote to approve it. These legislators know that their constituents want term limits on Congress. According to a 2020 poll of voters in Maine, term limits enjoy wide bipartisan support. In Maine, 88% of Republicans, 71% of Democrats, and 58% of Independents strongly approve of placing term limits on members of Congress.
Once the amendment is proposed by either Congress or the states at a national convention, it must be ratified by 38 states in order to become part of the U.S. Constitution.
