Rep. Scott Hilton Files Term Limits on Congress Resolution in Georgia

Atlanta, GA – Representative Scott Hilton (district 48) has filed House Resolution (HR258) for Georgia to join the states calling for a convention for proposing a congressional term limits amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The effort has more than 70 co-sponsors and is being spearheaded by the nonpartisan, nonprofit, U.S. Term Limits (USTL).

According to the latest RMG Research poll, 79% of registered voters in Georgia support term limits on Congress, including strong support among Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike.

HR258 has a groundswell of support in the Georgia legislature with 80 state lawmakers supporting Rep. Hilton’s resolution having signed the U.S. Term Limits pledge.

“It’s time for Congress to be accountable to the people they represent, ” said Philip Blumel, USTL President. “Term limits will help restore trust in our government and ensure that power is returned to the hands of the citizens.”

HR258 will be assigned to a committee for a vote before it makes its way to the house floor.

If HR258 is passed in both the house and senate chambers this session, Georgia will join other states in the call to for a national convention for the exclusive purpose of proposing term limits on the U.S. Congress. Once 34 state legislatures pass similar resolutions and approve the term limits amendment language, the measure must be ratified by 38 states to become part of the U.S. Constitution.
