TX-10 Poll: McCaul Leads, But Siegel Would Win with Term Limits
Austin, TX – According to a new poll conducted by RMG Research, Democratic challenger Mike Siegel trails Congressman Michael McCaul in Texas’ 10th congressional race, but Siegel will win if he commits to support congressional term limits.
The poll, which was conducted from July 28-August 3rd, found that McCaul currently leads Siegel 46% to 39%. But when voters are asked who they would support if Siegel were to sign the U.S. Term Limits pledge, which McCaul opposes, Siegel would jump out to a six point lead (41% to 35%).
If Siegel signs the term limits pledge, he’d gain eight points with Republicans and four points with independents. Also, undecided voters – currently 15% of the electorate – would break for Siegel at a 2-to-1 rate if he came out in support of term limits. According to the poll, 79% of 10th district voters don’t know what Congressman McCaul’s position is on congressional term limits. That presents a major opportunity for either candidate to make inroads with voters by campaigning on the issue.
The survey of 500 registered voters in Texas’ 10th district was conducted online by RMG Research, Inc. from July 28th-August 3rd using a representative sample to reflect the state’s population of registered voters. It has a margin of error of +/- 4.5 percentage points. RMG Research is owned and operated by Scott Rasmussen.
