Have you been watching the presidential primary debates? They’re a complete mess! Republicans and Democrats are further apart on the issues today than ever before. That means half of the country will oppose whomever we elect.
The deep partisan divide hasn’t stopped the candidates from talking a good game. They all acknowledge a need to “work with the other party” to get things done.
But something key is missing. How will there ever be common ground if the parties oppose each other on everything? They can only do it if they find the rare political issue with support from all sides.
That issue is congressional term limits. Polls show that supermajorities of Republicans, Democrats and Independents support term limits on Congress. Our issue is one the American people embrace in a time of cynicism. It’s one that unifies in a time of division.
That’s why U.S. Term Limits has launched the Term Limits Convention, a plan of action that will wake our candidates up and bring home the career politicians in Congress. The bill has been written and we’re assembling state teams to make term limits on Congress a reality for the American people.
